Former extractive pits of possible post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Dennington, Yarcombe. The four earthworks are sub-oval and sub-triangular in shape and measure between 12m to 47m in length. Clay pits (MDV47454 & MDV47455) are depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the 1880’s-90’s, so it seems probable these pits were similarly utilised for such.
