Cropmarks which have formed over an infilled ditch of a possible former medieval field boundary are visible on aerial photographs of 1950, to the west of Bentoaks, Hemyock. The linear cropmarks are north to south aligned and closely respect the historic field patterns depicted here on the Hemyock Parish Tithe map of 1838-48 comprising medieval enclosures based on strip fields. The visible cropmarks do not correspond with any field boundaries shown here on this map, or subsequent historical maps made available to the survey, suggesting the field boundary had passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks were not clearly visible on other aerial photographs or digital images made available to the survey.
