Two irregular earthwork pits, up to circa 80 metres across in total, is visible on aerial photographs taken from the 1940s, although they are not clearly visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. The area is depicted as orchard on the 19th century mapping and a small enclosure, possibly a pond, within the orchard partly corresponds to one of the pits. It is possible that the earthworks are the remains of post-medieval or early-19th century extractive pits that became disused by the mid-19th century and the area was subsequently used for cultivation of fruit trees. They may since have been substantially levelled.
