Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of parallel ridges up to circa 5 metres apart were visible as very subtle earthwork banks over an area of less than 0.2ha on digital images derived from lidar data captured from 1998 to 2014.
The visible banks fall within the much larger Plot 840 on the Tithe Map for Membury, listed as Barn, Mow Barton and Orchard. The plot remains depicted as an orchard on the 19th and early 20th century maps available to the survey. The plot remained moderately planted on aerial photographs of 1947.
The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks possibly made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period but cleared in the second half of the 20th century.
