Full description

Two large rectangular structures shown on 19th century map with a sluice shown on the west side of each.

Smith , J. R. + Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1996, Shaugh Bridge China-Clay Works: An Archaeological Evaluation, Sites 22-26 + 29, 9-10 + survey (Report - Evaluation). SDV360309.

Site 22: Southern of two settling tanks constructed in Phase 2 around 1880 with earth-mortared granite masonry walls circa 2 metres high by 2 metres wide. The internal dimensions are 25 by 19 metres.
Site 23: Hatch door communicates the southern settling tank to the slurry channel to the west.
Site 24: Northern of two settling tanks circa 25 metres long by 16.5 metres wide. The has been some collapse of the common wall between the two tanks.
Site 25: Hatch door communicates the northern settling tank to the slurry channel to the west.
Site 26: A slurry channel 0.7 metres deep leads from the southernmost settling pit to the east to both settling tanks. The upper part of the channel is constructed of granite and the lower portion of concrete and re-aligned.
Site 29: Another slurry channel 0.7 metres deep connects the central settling pit to the east with the most northerly settling tank
