Summary

Cropmarks which have formed over levelled banks of former field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947, to the east of Kilson Cottage, Thrushelton. The former field boundaries have been interpreted as being of likely medieval or later date, although a prehistoric date is also possible.

Removed field boundaries are visible as cropmark banks on aerial photographs (p1) and were digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. The boundaries lie within an area classed as medieval enclosures based on strip fields in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon. Although they are likely to be medieval or later in origin a prehistoric date should not be discounted.
