A series of removed field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (p1&2) and were digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. One is visible as a cropmark ditch, but all the others survive as earthwork banks or ditches. A further boundary is visible as a ditch at SS 45520 01324. Within the fields extensive traces of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are also visible. These are likely to be post medieval or modern in origin and probably post date the field boundaries. The features lie partly within an area classed as medieval enclosures based on strip fields and partly within an area classed as C18th and C19th post-medieval enclosures in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
