A series of linear earthwork banks, circa 4m in width, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1986 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, on a limestone plateau at Dornafield Cross, Ipplepen. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 2 hectares and are predominantly north to south aligned. Two additional east to west aligned banks to the west possibly define a rectilinear enclosure, circa 80m in length by 70m in width, within which is an oval banked feature, circa 25m in length by 17m in width, of unknown relationship and which has been recorded as a separate monument (MDV122728). The earthworks do not correspond with any linear features shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, which is shown as unenclosed common, or on later available historic maps, but are in keeping with the character of the wider historic field pattern of medieval enclosures based on strip fields. Whilst they are of largely uncertain origin, they have been tentatively interpreted as relict field boundaries of medieval date.
