Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

The remains of parallel earthwork ridges were visible as earthworks under tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, on the lower slopes overlooking the Oxencombe Brook, Chudleigh.
The closely spaced banks, measuring circa 4 metres wide, cross the contours of the north-facing slopes on the southern bank of the Bramble Brook. The plot in which the banks are visible is listed as an orchard on the Tithe Apportionments for Chudleigh (plot 405) and remains depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch first edition map. The banks are interpreted as earthworks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within the orchard and were probably made prior to 1840.
The banks are obscured from view by dense tree cover on images derived from aerial photographs of 2016 but remain visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
