Ditches, circa 10m wide, which are flanked by banks, between 4m to 10m wide, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the northwest of Chipley Farm, Bickington. The earthworks possibly form part of a single curvilinear shaped feature, circa 200m in length, which closely follows the contours of the northeast and east facing slope. The earthworks partly correspond with field boundaries shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and is characterised as an area of medieval enclosures based on strip fields. Given their substantial nature, the earthworks are interpreted as the remains of a possible medieval or post-medieval trackway, connecting the roads to both the north and south, and which had been partly formalised into a field boundary by the 19th century. Additional earthwork banks visible to the south are of less certain origin, although may represent associated features.
