Parallel earthwork ridges were visible on aerial photographs of 1946, within a circa 0.7 hectare plot to the east of the Kate Brook, Chudleigh. The closely spaced banks are on average 6 metres wide and are aligned obliquely cross-contour, on two orientations, towards the watercourse.
They closely resemble banks commonly seen within orchards, made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil for fruit tree planting. However, the plot in which the banks are visible is listed as under arable cultivation on the Tithe Map for Chudleigh (Plot 1083, Barn Plot). As such, the banks either relate to a former orchard cleared prior to the 1840s or were made simply to improve drainage into the Kate Brook prior to this date.
The plot was developed for housing by the 1990s and the banks probably destroyed.
