- MINE SHAFT? (Constructed, XVIII to XIX - 1800 AD to 1830 AD (Between))
Full description
Waterhouse, R., 2017, The Tavistock Canal. Its History and Archaeology, 195-6, Fig 6.51 (Monograph). SDV361789.
It is unknown precisely where the water engine of Wheal Pixon was located; references to Engine Shaft and to workings 40 fathoms below surface level clearly indicate there must have been one. This presumably utilised canal water and may have been in the area now occupied by Tavistock Community College (see Fig 6.51).
Waterhouse gives site of possible engine shaft on map of the site of Wheal Pixon.
