Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges were visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1964 as earthwork banks to the south of Stokelake House, Hennock.
The visible earthworks covered an area of circa 0.8 hectares and the closely spaced banks are on average 5 metres wide and are aligned cross-contour.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted and listed as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Hennock (Plot 239) but not the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map. The banks are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard of probable post-medieval to early 19th century date that were cleared between 1840 and 1880. The Y-arrangement of the banks is unusual and may have been intended to improve the drainage function of the banks. A short length of bank visible to the north-west of the orchard is interpreted as a possible former orchard enclosure boundary.
The banks cannot be seen as earthworks on more recent images and have probably been levelled during development of the plot.
