A circular pit or shallow hollow is visible as an earthwork circa 13m in diameter on aerial photographs of 1946, north of Preston, Kingsteignton. The earthwork does not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey and is interpreted as evidence of an early to mid-20th century shaft or prospecting pit, associated with clay extraction in the immediate area. The earthwork was destroyed by later large-scale clay extraction.
