Shallow but extensive irregularly shaped pits are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as earthworks on the south-east facing slopes to the south of Teignmouth Golf Club.
The deepest visible section of pit corresponds with a small gravel pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25in Second Edition map, but the shallow disturbance extends for circa 0.9ha beyond these depicted features. The earthworks are interpreted as evidence of gravel extraction or prospection, of probable 19th to early 20th century date.
