A series of linear banks are visible as earthworks.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork banks, circa 4m wide, are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the northwest facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.2 hectares. The earthworks coincide with land parcel 879 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is recorded as ‘Langs Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. An orchard is also shown here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the late 19th century. An orchard in this location suggests that the earthworks were 19th century tree planting banks, the fruit trees having been established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The plot remains planted with trees on aerial imagery taken between 1946-1949, although has been completely cleared by 1986.
