Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping, although earthworks labelled as ‘Quarry’ are recorded in proximity to the southwest on the late 19th century Ordnance Survey First Edition map. The earthworks are interpreted as possible post-medieval or early 19th century quarries which had passed out of use by the late 19th century. The location of the pits on prominent outcrops may also suggest the earthworks are of geological origin. They are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
