Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel ridges were visible as earthworks under light tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946. The closely spaced banks are on average 6 to 7 metres wide and are visible in two blocks, aligned north-east to south-west and south-west to north-east across the contours of the east-facing slopes. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Combeinteignhead (Plot 61, Well Park & Bottom & Park Orchard) and the Ordnance Survey 25-inch first edition map. The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840.
The two blocks of orchard banks appear to flank a roughly north to south hollow or ditch, probably the relict earthworks of a former field boundary not depicted on the 19th century maps and therefore probably of post-medieval to early 19th century origin.
The plot remains lightly planted and banks visible as slight earthworks on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 and images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
