Earthworks of linear, sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits, incised channels, banks and mounds are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthworks occupy an area of circa 1.90 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope and are largely random in form. The earthworks correspond with land parcel 70 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and recorded as woodland on the corresponding Tithe Apportionment. The character of the earthworks supports the interpretation they represent the extractive workings, stream channels and associated spoil heaps of a medieval or post-medieval tin streamworks. One of the earthwork mounds probably associated with these tin workings and located at SX83617395 corresponds with Stover Park Icehouse (MDV9151), which had evidently been constructed onto the mound. This supports the interpretation that the workings had passed out of use by the time the icehouse was constructed in circa 1780. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to dense tree cover of Icehouse Copse. Further investigations, such as targeted trenching is recommended to help define the character of these earthworks.
