Closely spaced parallel linear earthwork banks, circa5 metres wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1971 on the west-facing slopes west of Voss Farm, Sparkwell.
The plot is listed as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Plympton St Mary and depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the 1880’s-90’s.
By 1971 aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been largely cleared, revealing the roughly west to east aligned earthwork banks on the west of the plot. The visible banks occupy an area of approximately 0.2 hectares although the original orchard was substantially larger in area.
The banks remain visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014
