Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.

Earthworks of oval and irregularly shaped pits, circa 30m long and 48m long, respectively, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The southern of the two earthworks corresponds with land parcel 140 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, which is recorded as ‘Waste in Quarry Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. Earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarry’ are also shown in proximity to the east on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. This supports the interpretation that the earthworks represent post-medieval or early 19th century quarries which had passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks are not clearly visible on other available aerial imagery owing to tree cover.
