Sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits, between 14m and 55m long, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit feature depicted in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, although a limekiln is shown on this map, as well as on later available historic maps The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries associated with this limekiln (MDV38657). The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to dense tree cover of Scotch Fir Plantation.
