An irregularly shaped pit up to circa 25m across is visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork on the north-east facing slopes overlooking Brixton Barton, Shaugh Prior.
The visible earthwork corresponds with an area depicted as rough ground on the Tithe Map for Shaugh Prior and a pit depicted by hachures on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map.
The pit might have influenced the line of an orchard boundary immediately to the north and therefore might predate the post-medieval field pattern south of Brixton Barton.
The pit is accessed to the west and east by trackways, but these may be modern in date.
