Earthworks of banks, circa 5m wide, and a ditch, circa 8m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthworks define a sub-rectangular enclosure, circa 115m long by 75m wide, which is situated on the moderate southeast facing slopes of a combe. The enclosure comprises an almost complete inner banked circuit, flanked by an outer ditch and an additional section of bank to the northwest. A possible entrance which is marked by a break in the inner bank either side of a shallow hollow, circa 11m wide, is visible along the southern edge of the enclsoure. The southeast corner of the enclosure has been truncated by earthworks of a trackway and is not visible. The earthworks do not correspond with any features in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, or on later available historic maps, supporting the interpretation that the enclosure had passed out of use by this time. The form of the earthworks and their comparisons with enclosure MDV2854 recorded on Henlake Down, circa 3km to the southeast, supports the interpretation that it represent possible evidence of medieval or post-medieval settlement, although an Iron Age or Roman date cannot also be discounted. A site visit is recommended to help establish more fully the extent and nature of the earthworks.
