The bank corresponds with a boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Shaugh Prior, enclosing Orchard adjacent to a probable farmstead of probable medieval origin (recorded as Plot 159 on the tithe apportionments).
The farmstead and associated infield are not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s First Edition 25inch map.and were therefore probably cleared between circa 1840 and 1880.
