A sub-oval pit, circa 50m long by 40m wide, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken during the 1940s and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthwork corresponds with land parcel 772 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is recorded as ‘Round Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. It is therefore interpreted as a possible post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pit which had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century, by which time the redundant pit had been given over to use as an orchard.
