The pit is interpreted as a small quarry or extractive pit. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any feature depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury and the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. It is likely that the pit had ceased to be used by the early 19th century.
The pit remains identifiable as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.
