Name:Field system west of Collacombe Barton, Lamerton

Summary

Numerous conjoined curvilinear earthwork banks are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 2005 and 2013, and are interpreted as medieval field boundaries that fell out of use by the mid-19th century. An area of possible ridge and furrow is also visible.

Several curvilinear, conjoined earthwork banks, up to 5 metres wide, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2005 and 2013. They fit into the extant field system and are interpreted as the remains of medieval field boundaries. They are not depicted in the Tithe map and are likely to have fallen out of use by the mid-19th century. The possible remains of ridge and furrow are visible as parallel earthwork banks and ditches in one of the former land parcels enclosed by the boundary banks.
One of the banks may correspond to a field boundary recorded by the Tamar Valley NMP project (MDV114160), but a conjoined linear feature also recorded by the NMP project does not fit into the field system visible on lidar, and the relationship of the two features is uncertain.

Understanding Landscapes Project, 2020-2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Volunteer data, 382.3 (Interpretation). SDV363949.

Field divided into 4 with boundary banks not shown on epoch 1. Northern field bank partially shown on MDV114160.
