An irregularly shaped pit circa 16mm wide and 20m long is identifiable as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 cut into the north-west facing slopes under the tree cover of Ward Plantation.
The earthwork is probably the remains of an extractive pit. It corresponds in part with a pit depicted on the early 20th century Ordnance Survey 25inch Second Edition map but might date to the late-19th century. It presumably remained in use into the later 20th century.
A probable spoil dump is identifiable as a small mound to the downslope end of the pit.
