The banks do not correspond with any features derived from the available historic maps. They are situated within a plot recorded as ‘Road and Fishacres Wood’ under coppice and timber cultivation in the Tithe Apportionment, and labelled as Rhodes Wood on the Tithe Map. The area is shown as being under continuous woodland cover in subsequent historic and modern maps. The historic landscape is characterised as ancient woodland. An extractive pit is recorded to the immediate south-east (MDV), and there is mining activity recorded to the south-east (MDV43151). Further field boundaries are recorded within the woodland to the south (MDV).
The banks are interpreted as field boundaries of medieval to post-medieval origin, that passed out of use prior to 1840.
