A small irregular shaped mound 20 metres by 15 metres and adjacent irregular shaped pit 20 metres by 8 metres, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2007. They are situated on the boundary between agricultural land and plantation on an east-facing slope south-west of Willestrew.
The earthworks correspond with a curving projection in a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map. The plot to the north is recorded as a plantation and the plot to the south is recorded as ‘Quarry Park’. A quarry is recorded to the north-west (MDV114185) and several spoil heap mounds and shafts are recorded to the north (MDV75976; MDV75977; and MDV75975).
The mound and depression are interpreted as the remains of extractive work of post-medieval origin, and around which the field boundary was established.
