A curvilinear bank between circa 3 and 6 metres in width and forming a small D-shaped enclosure around a depression circa 10 by 20 metres is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2005 and 2013. A section of bank projects north from the enclosure, and there are several further irregular shaped depressions to the immediate north. The earthworks are situated in a south-east facing field north of Woodtown.
The earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on the available historic maps. The plot is recorded as ‘Road Park’ in the Tithe Apportionment and a trackway is depicted through it on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map. The plots above the earthworks are recorded as ‘Little Quarry Hill’ and ‘Great Quarry Hill’ (MDV19530).
A curvilinear enclosure is recorded closely to the south-west (MDV76095).
The earthworks are interpreted either as small enclosures of possible medieval or earlier origin and may relate to settlement, or as extractive pits of post-medieval origin.
