Name:Structure in streamworking west of Deadman's Bottom

Summary

Remains of a Medieval or later three-sided structure, possibly a shelter, built into the steep scarp marking the edge of streamworks on the left bank of the River Plym. An archaeological field survey in 2002 recorded coursed boulder revetments up to 0.8 metres high enclosing an area measuring 5.5 metres by 3.1 metres which is open to the north. No obvious internal features were recorded in the rubble-strewn interior.

(19/03/2002) SX 59996718. A small three-sided structure built into the steep scarp marking the edge of tinworkings on the left bank of the River Plym downstream from Plym Ford. Coursed boulder revetments 0.8m high enclose an area 5.5m N to S by 3.1m which is open to the N. There are no obvious internal features in the rubble-strewn interior.
The origin and function of this structure are unclear.
