Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The plot is recorded as Tail Moor Coppice on the Tithe Map, the curving boundary of which corresponds to the west edge of the depression.

Two ponds are recorded in the western part of the earthwork.

An irregular shaped earthwork depression is visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016 in Tailmoor Coppice. Its western edge corresponds to a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map and two ponds are depicted in the west part on the Second Edition OS map. An old marl pit is recorded to the north (MDV106769). The earthwork depression is interpreted as a post-medieval to 19th century extractive pit, that may pre-date c.1840.
