Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The earthworks do not correspond with any features, but are parallel with some depicted field boundaries.

Several subtle curvilinear banks and ditches are faintly visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016 northwest of Buckley Plantation. The earthworks are orientated approximately northwest to southeast and are parallel with each other. They do not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps, but are parallel to some adjacent depicted field boundaries. The earthworks are interpreted as former medieval field boundaries that may have formed part of a strip field system, and that passed out of use prior to circa 1840.
