Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The plot is recorded as 'Little Clay Land'.

Two earthwork depressions are visible.

Two large circular depressions are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depressions are both circa 30m across and do not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps. They are situated within a plot recorded as 'Little Clay Land' on the Tithe Map (Plot 1641). A marl pit is recorded to the northeast (MDV117133) and possible clay workings are recorded to the southeast (MDV117143).
The depressions are interpreted as post-medieval extractive pits, possibly for clay or marl.
