A series of closely parallel banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The banks are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to early 19th century origin, that passed out of use by the late 19th century.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The banks are situated in a plot recorded as 'Cowleys Orchard' (Plot 537).

A series of closely parallel banks are visible as earthworks.

A series of closely parallel banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The banks are orientated northwest to southeast and circa 5m apart. They correspond with an orchard plot depicted on the Tithe Map, which passed out of useby the late 19th century.
The banks are interpreted as post-medieval to early 19th century planting ridges for orchard trees, that passed out of use by late 19th century.
