Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

One of the banks corresponds with a depicted field boundary. The plot is recorded as 'Barn Orchard'.

Part of the depicted field boundary has been removed, and part of the orchard has passed out of use.

Three parallel curvilinear banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The banks form a quarter-circle on a west facing slope west of Mouseplatt. One of the banks corresponds with a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map and part of which continues to be depicted on modern maps. The plot is recorded as 'Barn Orchard (Plot 1459) on the Tithe Map, part of which passed out of use by the early 20th century, the other part of which passed out of use in the mid to late 20th century.
The banks are interpreted as field boundaries of medieval to post-medieval origin, two of which passed out of use prior to circa 1840.
