Name:Tinners' hut, Raddick Hill

Summary

Remains of a medieval or later tinners' hut located within a disused lode tin working on the southern slope of Raddick Hill. An archaeological field survey in 2006 recorded a granite built structure measuring 6 metres by 3.4 metres with walls survives to a maximum height of 1.4m. The entrance is situated on the south-west side. One door jamb, consisting of a granite slab, remains in situ but the other has collapsed across the doorway. There is a recess in one end of the building measuring 1.5m by 0.9m one edge of which is defined by a stone platform taking up the remaining width of the structure. The platform has an upright stone of 0.9m high positioned on its corner.

(01/08/2006) A tinners' hut located within a disused lode tin working on the southern slope of Raddick Hill. The building is set in a concealed hollow and embanked with earth on all sides. The walls are constructed from granite in a dry-stone fashion. Internal dimensions are 6m by 3.4m and the wall survives to maximum height of 1.4m. The entrance is situated on the south-west side. One door jamb, consisting of a granite slab, remains in situ but the other has collapsed across the doorway. The opening may have been 0.5m before collapse. There is a recess in one end of the building measuring 1.5m by 0.9m one edge of which is defined by a stone platform taking up the remaining width of the structure. The platform has an upright stone of 0.9m high positioned on its corner.
