Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The plots are both recorded as orchards.

Royal Air Force, 1946 - 1949, Royal Air Force Aerial Photographs (Aerial Photograph). SDV342938.

The plots continue to be mostly under orchard usage and the banks are visible as earthworks.

Ordnance Survey, 1953-1969, Ordnance Survey map (Cartographic). SDV349895.

The orchards are no longer depicted, and the plots combined into a singular field.

A series of closely parallel east to west orientated linear banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The banks are circa 4-5m apart and correspond with two plots of orchard recorded on historic maps, and visible as an orchard on aerial photographs dating to the 1940s. The banks are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that passed out of use in the mid 20th century.
