Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

One of the depressions partially corresponds with a small area of scrub vegetation on the edge of the field, the other is situated in an orchard.

Two earthwork depressions are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. Both depressions are approximately oval shaped, one circa 60m by 25m, and one circa 25m by 20m. One of the depressions is situated within an orchard depicted on historic maps, and one partially corresponds with an area of scrub vegetation on the edge of the field depicted on the First and Second Edition OS maps. The depressions are interpreted as extractive pits of post-medieval to 19th century origin.
