Sims, R., Knight, S. & Houghton, E., 2020-2021, East Devon AONB Lidar Assessment and Desk based Assessment (Interpretation). SDV363914.

A clearly discernible circular earthwork mound 8m across is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. It is situated on a moderate north-east facing slope overlooking the Offwell Brook valley. The mound is on the edge of a large plot of furze recorded as Banks's Hill on the Tithe Map. Trackways are depicted immediately adjacent on the First and Second Edition OS maps, where the surrounding land is depicted as rough pasture. The mound appears to be situated at the crossroads of the trackways. It is clearly visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs dating to the 1940s.
There are no prehistoric records in the immediate landscape, although the plot name of Banks's Hill could indicate the presence of early earthworks (MDV116269). Nothing else of interest was identified in the locale from the lidar data.
The mound is interpreted as a possible Bronze Age barrow. Alternatively, it could be a post-medieval or modern landscape feature positioned to demarcate the crossroads. The feature would benefit from further investigation.
