Full description

Parsons, H., 1953, Investigations into the Burford Down Stone Row, 145-147 (Article in Serial). SDV165956.

This 'blocking stone' is noted by Parsons and his measurements are 2.7 metres by 1.0 metre. It appears to have been split by drilling.

Hankin, C. F., 1977-1979, Harford Parish Checklist (Worksheet). SDV149931.

(10/5/1978 and -/8/1978) A large block of worked granite which is roughly circular in shape (diameter 2.50 metres); with a fairly even surface. Around the stone a narrow 'ditch' has formed, which may or may not be natural. The ditch can be measured to a depth of 0.70 metres which appears to be the depth of the stone.

Some 120 yards beyond the newtake wall is another newtake wall cumbank running northeast-southwest and 30 yards beyond this again is a large earth set stone part of which has been broken off and lies nearby. Parsons considers that this stone is possibly the terminal menhir of the stone row (citing Parson, H, 1953).
The alleged blocking stone noted by Parsons measures 2.7 metres by 1.0 metre and has been split by drilling (citing Ordnance Survey Field Investigators Comments, 02/08/1977).
