With the exception of an assemblage of Mesolithic flintwork found residually in later depositional contexts, the earliest evidence of activity on the site took the form of a small, sub-circular pit (5006), approximately 1.3m in diameter and 0.2m deep, in Area 5. Twenty-eight sherds of Early Neolithic pot, probably from a single vessel, and 19 pieces of worked flint were recovered from the pit
