HER Number:MDV132690
Name:Series of leats, Birch Tor and Vitifer Mine

Summary

Sections of five parallel tinners' leats running between the western Birch Tor Lode openwork and the Redwater valley streamworks. The leat channels, now dry and silted survive up to 0.6m deep with upcast material visible on the downslope side. The leats cannot be traced beyond the points where they have been cut by tinworks at either end but are likely to have once diverted water from either Bush Down or Water Hill to workings near the head of the Redwater valley. Although undocumented the leats are likely to be post-medieval i.e.. c.1450-1750.
