Summary

Two narrow trenches running down the lower slope of Down Tor are possible examples of tin prospecting using flowing water. The trench at SX 5864 6967 is 132m long by on average 5m wide and 1m deep and was fed by a leat channel at its southern end. The same leat (part of MDV42431) fed a second smaller trench at SX 5889 6980. Two other examples in this vicinity (MDV25104). This method of prospecting was recorded in contemporary documents, but examples in the field are rare.

Two narrow trenches running down the lower slope of Down Tor are possible examples of tin prospecting using flowing water. The trench at SX 5864 6967 is 132m long by on average 5m wide and 1m deep and was fed by a leat channel at its southern end.
