Netherton axe. A Palaeolithic axe was found on the south bank of the River Teign near Netherton. It is a pointed ovate axe of Chellean type, 4.7 inches by 3.3 inches by 2 inches (11.93 by 8.38 by 5.08 centimetres). Coarsely flaked, well-shaped though heavily rolled with a brown patination. The axe is marked by about 15 distinct striations and has frost pits which both suggest movement by glacier. The axe is in Torquay Museum.
