Remains of mansion, residence of Sir John Thorold in 1700 AD. Externally nothing of architectural interest, but the core of Burston may be 16th-century, refashioned in the 17th century. Parlour is panelled with a chapel above. Burston is said to have been demolished circa 1970.

Burston. Remains of mansion. Residence of sir john thorold in 1700 ad. Vis=18/10/1967 (os) externally nothing of architectural interest. Vis=the core of burston may be 16th century, refashioned in 17th century. Parlour is panelled with a chapel above. Carved into the panelling of the parlour is the date 1699 with the thorold arms. The chapel has an internal apse and a small dome with attractive plaster-work no exterior signs of church as it was constructed for catholic worship in penal days (doe). Vis=burston is said to have been demolished circa 1970 (oral in j. Scott, rector of morebath). Copy in smr of part of ms history of the parish (1867) describes the painted partraits and hatchments (smr). Vis=one plaster ceiling from burston is said to have been removed to norfolk at the demolition (scott).
