Summary

Earthworks of a possible ploughed out barrow were recorded at Hillside Farm, Northlew, in 1974. A low earthwork mound with outer cropmark ditch was also recorded from aerial photographs taken in 1946.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1974, SX49NE10 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV254005.

A vague unsurveyable circular ground swelling approx. diameter 22 metres, height 2 metres, which may possibly represent a ploughed out round barrow. Situated in pasture, just below a hill crest, overlain by farm track. (Site visit, 30/05/1974)

A barrow is visible on aerial photographs (p1) as a low earthwork mound and enclosing cropmark ditch with an external diameter of roughly 24m. It has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.
