Full description
Oliver, B. W., 1928, The Castle of Barnstaple, 221 (Article in Serial). SDV73002.
Barnstaple Castle well now covered, still exists. Just outside south west angle of Castle House.

The covered well was first recorded in the grounds of 'Castle House' which lies within the castle's inner bailey, which was laid to lawn in 1953.

Site visit 15th October 1953. Site of the Medieval castle well.The oldest well was situated just outside Castle House. The well is covered but can still be seen at the north of the bailey.
